Day 6 was spent in Skagway where we did an ultimate family adventure! This included mining for gold, feeling subzero temps in a freezer, meeting iditarod musher, Matt Hayashida, and his team of dogs, tasting some brew and seeing a dredger.
Day 7 was spent at Icy Strait Point (Hoonah). Icy Strait Point is
Alaska Native owned-and-operated, with all profits directly supporting the
community of Hoonah, Alaska’s largest Native Tlingit village. Jason went out
fishing in the morning; while it was not very successful, it was quite peaceful
and enjoyable. Then, we learned about
the Native culture thru a rain forest tram ride and then a tribal dance. While we did not see any bears, this island
has more bears than humans (3:1). We did
see a few whales and plenty of eagles!
Back on the cruise ship, Kyle was the master Sushi helper and we enjoyed a relaxing evening with a beautiful sunset!
