Out East: Part I

Thursday, June 28 we began our Out East Vacation with a first stop in Columbus to spend the afternoon and night with the Ulrey Family and Nicole's Parents.

Friday, drove on to Cunningham Fall State Park in Maryland, arriving hours after Nicole's parents.  We set up camp with extreme heat and some bugs, so we decided to cool off in the lake and shower up.  The boys enjoyed the playground for some time, until, after mastering the monkey bars, Kyle fell to the ground and cried of a painful wrist the rest of the evening.  That night, we spent hours in the campground restrooms for safety from the extreme thunderstorms which knocked the power out of our campground and the DC/Maryland/Virginia/and West Virginia areas.

We decided to take Kyle to Urgent Care Saturday where we discovered his wrist was broken.  We had a cast put on...later to find out the cast needed to be up to his shoulder to prevent the wrist from twisting and getting worse.  The Parrott Family arrived early Saturday morning (as they ended up driving most of the night, following the storms, and had no place to stop for lodging/food as nothing had electric).

After moving to a new campsite for electric and bathroom facilities, the Mueller Family ventured to Gettysburg and toured the museum and grounds there. 

Sunday we headed into DC via the Metro.  The boys enjoyed the ride, and we arrived downtown with only some minor ticketing mishaps.

 We toured the National Museum of Natural History and the Museum of National History.

 Walked around a bit, but not too much as it was 100+ degrees.

 Prior to leaving Indy, the boys only desire was to see the White House.  Check that one off the list.

 We arrived back at the campground, exhausted!

On Monday, we hiked the trails to the waterfall before the Mueller family packed up camp and headed to NIH.  We were ready for a few nights in a hotel, air conditioning, and a fresh shower!
