Since the boys turned 5, it seems we have entered a new phase in parenthood. The first five years consisted of meeting the boys' needs, loving them, and keeping them physically safe so they would stay alive. We have now entered the "character building" stage, which presents new challenges (and opportunities) for us as parents. We are loving the freedom and flexibility. The month of May consisted of a lot of 'normal' weeks and weekends. A majority of our time, we worked around the house, played in the sprinklers (it has been so warm) and we've already had a summer's worth of s'mores! A highlight for the boys was attending an Indiana Ice hockey game. Given the past five years, I anticipated making it through only one period...two periods later, the boys were still into the game (with only one goal scored). I personally was hungry for dinner and was not interested in a corn dog....so we left, to their disappointment, and had dinner at Bazbeaux on Mass Ave...As we sat outdoors along Mass Ave, eating dinner, we had the most pleasant dining experience (with children) in the past five years....there was no diaper bag, no sippy cups, no coloring books...just a fun, family conversation and perfect dining experience.
Throughout the school year, we have gone to our library branch for an afternoon reading program. Today, in preparation for the Indy 500, the stories were related to race cars. At the end, the kiddos went outside to "race" around a track! The boys absolutely loved it.
We are so looking forward to summer vacation (it starts tomorrow)...we have 2 months to make the most of it as school starts again for us August 1st.

Your boys were the best behaved kids at Ella's party. I am still having nightmares from it. Cant wait to get together again.
